Owned and directed from the United Kingdom, with the bench, the technicians and the milling in our own facility in Georgia.
British-owned, built to British and European standards
Orvellan is owned and directed from the United Kingdom and manufactures in its own laboratory in Tbilisi. The working practices, materials and documentation are those a UK or EU practice expects as standard.
Ownership
British
Owned and directed from the United Kingdom, with the laboratory and technicians in Tbilisi.
Every restoration is a custom-made device and travels with the manufacturer documentation it is required to carry.
Position
Most laboratories go quiet the moment a case leaves the surgery. Orvellan is built the other way round.
The file arrives, and from that point you can see what is happening to it: when it was checked, who designed it, what it was made from, and when it left the bench. No phone calls to find out where a case is.
That visibility is not a portal bolted onto an analogue workflow. It is the workflow — digital from intake to dispatch, in a laboratory built for it.
13 — Checks
What gets checked, and when
A case is inspected at four points rather than once at the end. Catching a problem at design costs an hour; catching it after milling costs a remake and a patient appointment.
On intake
Scan quality
Margin clarity, occlusal clearance and whether the antagonist and bite registration are actually present. This is the check that decides whether a rescan is worth asking for, and it happens the same day rather than after the case has sat in a queue.
At design
Contacts and emergence
Proximal contacts, occlusal scheme and emergence profile are checked against the opposing arch in software before anything is milled. The proposal you approve is the geometry that gets made.
After milling
Fit on the model
Seated on the printed or milled model and checked for rock, marginal gap and interproximal tightness. A restoration that will not seat here will not seat in the mouth.
Before dispatch
Surface and shade
Glaze, polish and shade checked under corrected lighting against the prescribed reference. Shade taken under a surgery light and shade checked under a laboratory light are not the same measurement, which is why the reference travels with the case.
Every check is recorded against the case, so the record shows who looked at it and when — not only that it passed.
12 — Materials
What each material is actually for
Material choice is a clinical decision, not a menu preference. This is what each class does well, and where it stops being the right answer.
Zirconia
Monolithic and layered
The default for posterior work where load matters more than translucency. Monolithic zirconia takes occlusal force without a ceramic layer to chip, which is why it survives bruxism cases that layered work does not. Modern multi-layer discs recover much of the translucency the early generations lacked.
Indications
·Posterior single units and bridges
·Full-arch frameworks
·Cases with limited occlusal clearance
Lithium disilicate
Pressed or milled
The anterior answer when the restoration has to disappear next to natural teeth. It etches and bonds adhesively, so it suits minimal-preparation work where retention comes from the bond rather than the shape of the preparation.
Indications
·Anterior crowns and veneers
·Inlays and onlays
·Minimal-preparation cases
Titanium
Bars, abutments and substructures
Used where the restoration meets the implant. Custom abutments are milled to the emergence profile the case needs rather than compromising around a stock component, and full-arch bars are milled from a single blank so there is no cast join to fail.
Indications
·Custom abutments
·Screw-retained frameworks
·Full-arch bars
PMMA
Provisional and diagnostic
Milled from the same scan as the definitive restoration, so a provisional is a genuine rehearsal rather than an approximation. Long-term provisionals let a full-arch case be tested in function before anything is committed to zirconia or titanium.
Indications
·Long-term provisionals
·Diagnostic try-ins
·Denture bases
Batch and manufacturer are recorded against every case, so a remake starts from the original record rather than a fresh set of assumptions.
